Ukamba Youth Entrepreneurship Program

Youth Entrepreneurship Program in Collaboration with USIU SIFE Members

Kenya has over 600 Polytechnics offering various vocational and technical training courses; unfortunately most of the rural polytechnics have proven unable to offer their graduates the entrepreurship training necessary for setting up business ventures upon completion of the vocational training. The result has been additional frustration for the thousands of poor rural families; as they watch their polytechnic graduated children return home to sit ideal due to luck of any meaningful employment and inability to start their own business. At Kamuthanga village most of the youth have been spending their time in alcohol consumpion and drug abuse.

Ukamba School of Business in collaboration with United States International University (USIU) members of Students In Free Entreprise (SIFE) have been able to accompolish the following:

• 10 youths have gotten gainful employment since undertaking the ICTs and Entrepreneurship training,
• 4 Youth business have been incubated at the Ukamba School of Business,
• Youth in Ukambani have sinces applied for variuos bursaries and other financial aid in order to attend Law (parallel Nairobi University), Medical (Kenya Medical Technical College) and the United States Interntional University,
• Notable reduction of drunkenness, alcohol consumpution and drug abuse among the youth in Kamuthanga village,
• Changed lifestyle as more youth are in class practising lesson learnt on the computer or in the library.

Bussiness Incubation Facility

Ukamba's committment to ensuring that the Youth are compeletly prepared for success is demonstrated by its willings to mentor and offer incuabation facilities to its youth entrepreneurs.

Mary Ngina (17) sate for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination in 2005, due to luck of school fees she was unable to go to secondary school. Mary was in the first youth entrepreneurship class at Ukamba and upone finishing her business plan for her dress making venture, Ukamba has been able to provide her with a sewing machine as well as adopt her business under the Ukamba Incubation Facility.

To adequately prepare the Youth for successful careers and entrepreneurship ventures by identifying their skills, talents, and interest and providing the necessary entrepreneurship training, business skills and ICTs tools to succeed.

The successful participants will be able to:-

• Equipped with the latest ICT skills necessary for gainful employment or entrepreneurial ventures,
• Clearly defined career goals for those student who are opting to seek employment,
• Comprehensive business plan for those student who want to start their own business,.

Career Counseling & Job Placement

Ukamba is currently providing Career Counseling and Job Search facility for our students.

• Provide a career counseling centre, with qualified career guidance counselor to assist the Youth in identifying job opportunity, new entrepreneurship ventures, as well as up to date information in the job market,
• An Information and Communication Technology Centre that will ensure that the Youth have the necessary ICT skills and tool to succeed in whatever careers they choose,
• database consisting currently advertised jobs, and electronic CV of the job applicants.
• Mentorship programs where successful entrepreneurs and professionals mentor the youth.
